issues that matter

why do i care what i wear, what i eat, what i say, what i delete? who am i to care?

why don’t i care more about YOU, about global warming, about issues that matter

NOT

splatter like rain drops on an ocean — what’s the difference? i want to make a difference, that’s what matters, that’s my point in this

aching joint we call planet i need to

plan it, this course of action to get me

out of myself and into the OTHER.

Out of all the people I know, you do care more about issues that matter than the average person. And I appreciate the reminder of getting my mind off myself and on to things that really matter. Love you.

I was struck by the relevance of your daily Bible verse for today: January 11, 2008 “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” 1 John 4:10 That’s why we care – because He cared first. We are given authority to care because He commands us to care, and shows us how to care. We can make a difference in the world because He already did. Our plan of action is there, brilliantly laid out in the Gospels – and this Gospel is the hope (read: solution, inspiration) we have to offer a world bogged down by issues. We would be paralyzed, chained, enslaved to the issues themselves (no more fulfilling than inward self-focus) were it not for that consuming atonement for sins. Instead, we are free to realize that it all matters because He says it matters, and He created us in love, to be loving, according to His definition of love.
